Three primary materials were used in the renovation: brilliant pearlescent white metal panels, aquamarine-green tinted glass, and gemstone masonry applied to the exposed base foundation. In addition to the pleasing modernization, the materials add to the building’s energy efficiency. Today’s products are “light years” and more energy efficient than the original materials, they’re also aesthetically brilliant. The building is now dynamic and has more striking appeal.
The scope of the project was originally limited to “critical maintenance”. However, we saw the potential for a more thorough makeover, while staying within the original budget. The firm worked economically and found money in the budget to do a complete image makeover. Our mission was to replace the existing façade in kind – we went beyond to create an energy efficient, timeless design so that the Campus Center will be the centerpiece of the SUNY Long Island Campus as it expands into its powerful new future over the next few years.
SPECTOR also provided architectural design services to create new entry bridges and pedestrian portals to complement the renovation of the building envelope. After a challenging beginning that required solution driven initiatives, the entire team delivered a product that realized and far exceeded the SUNY’s vision.
